About the Workshop:

THIS CLASS IS FULL!

Neck pain and tension is one of the most common complaints of clients.  It is therefore tremendously important that therapists thoroughly understand the anatomy of the neck in and the sources for neck pain and tension. In this class, you will explore the neck through self-awareness.  Then you will be guided through lecture and palpation of the most important muscles and ligaments.

  • Levator scapula
  • Trapezius
  • Semispinalis Capitis
  • Rotatores
  • Deep suboccipital muscles
  • Nuchal and Intertransverse Ligaments
  • Sternocleidomastoid
  • Scalenes

Then we will learn evaluations through palpation and movement. You will see demonstrated systematic and through applications  deep massage fulcrums for all these muscles – utilizing effleurage, petrissage, friction, active and passive movement.

Given the palpation and hand-on techniques you will learn - It is required for this workshop that you have someone you can work on – at your home or office.  You will need this person for palpation 11:00-11:45 and bodywork 1:30-4:00.

Underlying all this will be an awareness that the pain and tension is “neuromuscular” which means the pain and tension is often generated by the nervous system and “ends up” in the muscles.  This reminds us that there must be a letting go in the mind – emotions and thoughts – for full relaxation to take place and the cessation of pain and tension.

Our goal is a neck in with pain has been replaced with pleasure, dysfunction with functionality and an overall improved experience of body, mind and spirit.
