Therapeutic Techniques to Eliminate the Low Back Pain
Chronic or severe low back pain is one of the most debilitating conditions a person can experience. Roughly two-thirds of the population will suffer from low back pain at some point in their lives.

Most therapists and medical professionals find working with this condition both frustrating and difficult—in part, because they fail to see the missing component to reducing, eliminating, and eradicating low back pain.

This comprehensive workshop unveils the missing piece of the puzzle to low back pain. As a result, participants learn how to precisely assess the most commonly injured structures in the lower back and to use effective therapeutic approaches to eliminate pain. Attendees gain the tools to successfully differentiate muscle, ligament, and disc injuries, and, as a result, fine-tune their palpation skills and hands-on techniques. Drawing from 50 years of experience as a therapist, educator, speaker, and author, Dr. Ben Benjamin enables all participants to discover the missing link that can solve a wide range of complaints linked to chronic and severe low back pain in this lab-intensive course.

Discover the missing link to chronic low back pain with one of the leaders in the rehabilitation field. In this lab-intensive course, participants learn effective techniques to reduce, prevent, and eliminate low back pain This comprehensive workshop will teach you how to effectively assess and treat the most commonly injured structures in the low back. You’ll learn how to differentiate muscle, ligament, and disc injuries, and you’ll fine-tune your palpation skills and hands-on treatment techniques. The workshop provides ample time to develop all the skills you need to address a wide range of complaints.

An integrative approach

There are six major components to the training:

  • Anatomy: View and palpate the relevant musculoskeletal structures.
  • Assessment: Practice musculoskeletal assessment tests and palpation of injured structures.
  • Theory: Learn how to use the history, positive assessment test findings, and results of palpation to determine which structures are injured.
  • Integration: After you’ve learned the theoretical background and assessment procedures, we integrate this knowledge through hands-on learning games.
  • Technique: Apply effective techniques designed to eliminate adhesive scar tissue and enable proper healing.
  • Clinic: During the training participants practice their skills by taking part in an injury assessment clinic, free and open to the public, under Dr. Benjamin’s supervision.

Cupping for LMTs is a 7-hour continuing education course designed for massage students and LMTs that are new to the practice of cupping therapy. It provides an introduction to the history, core concepts, contraindications, and indications, as well as tools and techniques underlying the application of modern cupping therapy with hands-on training in cupping techniques that can be effectively integrated into nearly any modality of bodywork. Hands-on techniques will be focused primarily on cupping for myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, sports recovery, and orthopedic applications with specific anatomical considerations for the upper and lower body in a variety of positions. The intention of the course is to provide students with a broad overview of cupping therapy with a variety of focused methods and techniques that can serve as a foundation for them to apply cupping therapy effectively and creatively in any massage setting to assist clients seeking relief from chronic pain, tension, injuries and with sports recovery.

For each section of the course, students will receive a technical demonstration of techniques designed to treat specific focus areas and concerns. Demonstrations will also include a review of pertinent anatomical reference points and special considerations. Students will then have the opportunity to conduct trades with their fellow classmates utilizing the provided cups to practice this work with guidance from the instructor. Students will be provided with 2 sets of silicone cups (8pc) and one set of Vacuum Cups (24pc) included in their tuition. This allows them to walk away from the class with not only a new skill set but also the physical tools to practice their new skills in their primary massage setting.

“I am passionate about and committed to lifelong learning which is one of the reasons I’m so excited to share this work with other therapists! The Intro to Cupping course is designed to provide LMTs with the tools and techniques to better serve their clients dealing with chronic pain or recovering from injuries through the safe and effective use of suction cups. This work provides even more tools for a therapist’s tool kit while sparing wear and tear on the hands. Students also have the benefit of receiving both silicone and vacuum-based massage cups so they can walk out of the course and begin to utilize their new skills with clients immediately. These skills can be effectively integrated into so many modalities of massage and bodywork and I can’t wait to explore this work with therapists of all experience levels in a safe and encouraging environment!” – Natalie Meyersick

Deep Massage for the Iliopsoas focuses on the function and structure of the iliopsoas muscle and its supporting neighbors. The Iliopsoas is surrounded and supported by the lower back muscles, the abdominal muscles, and the thoracic diaphragm. Therefore we will focus on contacting all these muscles along with a variety of ways to contact the psoas and the iliacus. The approach of Deep Massage: the Lauterstein Method is to cultivate a higher quality of touch utilizing theory and practice developed by David Lauterstein and The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School over the

course of 35 years. Deep Massage integrates insights from the traditions of cranio-sacral work, Rolfing, and Zero Balancing, We will address postural, respiratory, and neurological impact of working with the iliopsoas and its neighbors. Since this area is vitally involved in the vagal response, we will also be conscious of the ways in which this work affects the nervous system and our energy.

Reiki I & II Certification Course – Hands-On Training and Application

Course Format:
This in-person, immersive Reiki I and II course combines lecture, demonstration, and extensive hands-on practice. Students will not only learn the foundational principles of Reiki but also directly experience and develop their own intuitive approach to channeling “universal life energy.” This course emphasizes experiential learning—students will actively engage in giving and receiving Reiki in a supportive, guided environment.

In Reiki I, students are introduced to the history, philosophy, and ethics of Reiki, as well as the foundational hand positions and techniques for self-healing and working with others. Attunements (initiations) will open energetic channels, aligning each participant with the Reiki frequency and enhancing their ability to facilitate energetic balance. Through guided practice, students will begin to sense energy fields, interpret intuitive impressions, and cultivate mindfulness in their healing work.

Reiki II deepens this connection, introducing the sacred Reiki symbols for power, mental-emotional healing, and distance work. Students will explore how to integrate these symbols into their massage sessions for enhanced focus, grounding, and energetic flow. A significant focus is placed on the professional therapeutic application of Reiki in professional settings, including integration with massage therapy and complementary healing modalities.
Throughout the course, students will experience various catalysts designed to help unlock and refine their unique algorithm for channeling universal energy. Tools such as singing bowls, tuning forks, grounding mats, Alpha-Stim technology, magnets, red light therapy, crystals, and pendulums will be incorporated to enhance energetic sensitivity, coherence, and vibrational awareness.

Technique Refinement workshop for students who’ve previously completed the 32-hour Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapy Specialization workshop, developed by Carole Osborne, featuring deep tissue, passive/active movement, and other techniques to address the physical and emotional needs of pregnant, laboring and postpartum clients.

Tuition – $170.00

Presented in-person Saturday, May 16th from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

In this workshop, we will explore the structure and function of the respiratory diaphragm, its relationship to breathing and identify whole-body connections. We will learn self-care treatments for enhancing breath as well as hands-on techniques to work with our clients. Incorporating abdominal massage into massage sessions provides worthwhile opportunities to support a client’s ability to improve breathing, build body interoception as well as support the release of tension and pain in the neck and low-back. We will identify key muscles and trigger points that often inhibit the diaphragm’s ability to move. With mindful touch and a deep therapeutic presence, the massage therapist is able to facilitate the client’s parasympathetic activation and vagal tone. To achieve these ends, we will practice and improve communication and draping skills in preparation for abdominal massage, develop therapeutic presence, and practice in-class abdominal massage with a partner.

Tuition $525.00 ($262.50 nonrefundable deposit) 21 CE hrs

Presented in-person Friday, June 5th through Sunday, June 7th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.

In this exciting course, you will learn about the myofascial tissue and its many roles in the body. You will begin to appreciate how the body incorporates the Anatomy Train Lines to create easy and graceful movement – provided they are in some form of balance and harmony; restriction or weakness in one section can have many compensatory effects elsewhere.

This workshop will show you how that happens, how to trace the lines of strain, and, most importantly, how you can develop strategies to deal with them.

Tuition – $180.00

Presented in-person Saturday, June 20th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

This Trigger Point course is designed to help massage therapists develop a clear, practical understanding of what trigger points are—and just as importantly, how they differ from the common “knots” clients frequently describe. While these terms are often used interchangeably in everyday conversation, trigger points represent a distinct neuromuscular phenomenon that can produce referred pain, restricted movement, and altered motor patterns. This course provides the clinical clarity needed to recognize and address them effectively in practice.

Students will explore the three primary types of trigger points: active, latent, and satellite. Active trigger points are associated with spontaneous or familiar pain patterns that clients recognize in their daily lives. Latent trigger points may not cause ongoing pain but can still limit range of motion, weaken muscles, and contribute to dysfunction. Satellite trigger points develop in response to primary trigger points and often perpetuate pain patterns if left untreated. Understanding how these types interact is essential for effective assessment and treatment planning.

In addition to classification, this course covers the most effective techniques for deactivating trigger points safely and efficiently. Emphasis is placed on palpation skills, pressure application, client feedback, and tissue response, allowing therapists to work with confidence and precision. By the end of the course, students will have a stronger understanding of how trigger points influence posture, movement, and pain, and how addressing them can significantly improve a client’s daily function and quality of life.

Tuition $1,300.00 – ($650.00 deposit) 50 CE hrs

Presented in-person in two consecutive weekends*, Friday, July 17th through Sunday, July 19th, and Friday, July 24th through Sunday, July 26th, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.

ZERO BALANCING has been called “the most revolutionary development in bodywork today.”
Zero Balancing (ZB) is a hands-on bodywork system designed to align the body both energetically and structurally. Zero Balancing focuses on the whole person, while addressing specific needs – profoundly relieving pain, tension, and discomfort. Considered at the leading edge of body/mind therapies, ZB moves beyond exclusively Western scientific approaches to body structure by also incorporating Eastern concepts of energy and healing. This enables practitioners to work simultaneously with structure and energy. Zero Balancing focuses on the musculo-skeletal system, with particular emphasis on key joints, ligaments, and soft tissues that support us in the gravitational field and facilitate energy flow.

Benefits of Zero Balancing

  • Relieves muscle pain and chronic tension through the whole body – with specific techniques for the low back, hips, feet, thorax, shoulders, arms, neck, and head.
  • Re-aligns the physical body
  • Deepens clients’ relief from past trauma
  • Stimulates psycho-spiritual development
  • Deeply relieves current life stresses
  • Promotes mental clarity and inspiration
  • Aligns structure and energy with respect
to each other

For ZB II, Participants will learn special new fulcrums for the ilium and gluteal muscles, the iliotibial band and gall bladder meridian; new work for the tarsal bones and foot; special fulcrums for the suboccipital muscles, neck and thorax. Participants will also review and gain far greater skill with all the basic ZB fulcrums and greater fluency with the protocol.
