The Lauterstein-Conway Massage Therapy Continuing Education Classes
Free the Breath! A Hands-on Exploration of the Respiratory Diaphragm and Abdominal Massage with MeriJayd O'Connor
In this workshop, we will explore the structure and function of the respiratory diaphragm, its relationship to breathing and identify whole-body connections. We will learn self-care treatments for enhancing breath as well as hands-on techniques to work with our clients. Incorporating abdominal massage into massage sessions provides worthwhile opportunities to support a client’s ability to improve breathing, build body interoception as well as support the release of tension and pain in the neck and low-back. We will identify key muscles and trigger points that often inhibit the diaphragm’s ability to move. With mindful touch and a deep therapeutic presence, the massage therapist is able to facilitate the client’s parasympathetic activation and vagal tone. To achieve these ends, we will practice and improve communication and draping skills in preparation for abdominal massage, develop therapeutic presence, and practice in-class abdominal massage with a partner.

ZB I with David Lauterstein
We are musculoskeletal beings, yet most therapists focus only on the muscular side of that equation. That addresses only half of that system! Zero Balancing (ZB) – adding a mindful focus on the bones, key joints, and the energy flowing through them, as well as on the soft tissues associated with them – gives you access to the deepest layer of the person, who they are in their bones. Zero Balancing adds wholeness to your work and your client’s experience and is the missing piece in the world of bodywork and bodymind therapies.
ZB II with David Lauterstein
Presented in-person Thursday, November 14th through Sunday, November 17th from 1:30pm to 5:30pm Thursday and 9:00am to 5:00pm Friday - Sunday for 25CE hours.
**You must have taken ZB I in order to take this course.**
Zero Balancing (ZB) is a hands-on bodywork system that aligns energy and structure. Simple, yet powerful, it focuses on the whole person, while superbly addressing specific needs and symptoms. Considered at the leading edge of body/mind therapies, ZB integrates Western scientific approaches to body structure with Eastern concepts of energy and healing. Zero Balancing focuses on the balance of energy and structure within the musculoskeletal system – particularly releasing tension and held energy from the bones, ligaments, and their associated soft tissues.
