Spa Techniques

The first half of this course is dedicated to providing an in-depth look at the spa industry and discovering the wide range of options available to those interested in working in a spa environement. We’ll then take a detailed look at various spa therapies and modalities, get to know the therapeutic properties of herbs, muds, and clays, and the many applications of hydrotherapy, and conclude with a discussion on becoming a successful member of a spa, touch on the ins and outs of finding the right spa job for you toward becoming a valued Spa Professional.

The second half of this course is a demonstration and trade of ‘spa massage,’ and is designed to grow your repertoire of skills, making you more marketable and elevating your service experience. You’ll learn some tricks of the trade on incorporating hot stones, steam towels, essential oils, and try your hand at designing your own spa service.

Mason Hickman serves as Lead Massage Therapist and Spa Experience Manage at Hiatus Spa + Retreat Austin. A graduate of Lauterstein-Conway, Mason has designed award-winning spa treatments for Hiatus Spa + Retreat, facilitated trainings and developed education for the company’s 5 locations. Mason is an unashamed spa junky, having visiting spas around the world and worked with some of the brightest minds in the industry.
